Producer Responsibility and WEEE in Italy

Italian WEEE Regulations

The Italian Decree: D. Lgs 151/2005 that implemented 2002/96/EC Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, came into force on August 13th 2005, requiring all companies that place Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) on the Italian market to take financial responsibility for the collection, treatment, recovery and recycling of EEE at end of life.

Baxter Obligation

All WEEE that Baxter handles is classed as business to business (B2B). As such, if a customer purchases a new piece of medical equipment from Baxter, we will finance the take back of an electrical or electronic item that performs an equivalent function (one for one). Where no new items are purchased from Baxter, disposal of WEEE is at the end users cost, except for where other contractual arrangements apply (for example, in the case of leased or loaned equipment).

Health & Safety Information

Infected WEEE is not included under the scope of the directive and customers should be aware that WEEE that presents a health or safety risk to personnel because of contamination will be refused for collection.
