The advice I most often give U.S. military members who are interested in pursuing a sales role is to find a mentor who is already in sales in the field that most interests you. This will allow you to get the best insight into exactly what companies are looking for in terms of hiring. With this knowledge you can better position your past experiences and translate them into something that the hiring manager can understand and relate to in the current role.
