Called to Serve His Fellow Vets
Baxter's BaxVET business resource group offers volunteer and networking opportunities benefiting service members and military families while supporting veterans making the transition from the military to Baxter. To learn more, we sat down with Robert Lipp, retired Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy, and co-chair of our BaxVET chapter in Skaneateles Falls, New York.
Q: Tell us about your role at Baxter.
Robert: I work on the technical communications team within Research and Development. Our team supports Baxter's Front Line Care business, which makes connected monitoring, intelligent diagnostic and respiratory health solutions that are used in hospitals and doctors' offices.
Q: What led you to become involved with the BaxVET business resource group (BRG)?
Robert: I come from a military background, having retired from the U.S. Navy with 28 years of service, so joining BaxVET was a natural fit for me. I've been involved with our BRG for veterans for quite a few years and take a lot of pride in that. Baxter’s mission to Save and Sustain Lives really resonates with military people like me.
Q: What does the BaxVET BRG do best when it comes to supporting service members, military families and civilian partners?
Robert: I think one of our greatest strengths is our connection and commitment to veterans in our communities. Our chapters are plugged into local veteran nonprofits and resource centers, and they are eager to join volunteer projects that support veterans. The Baxter International Foundation generously provides $50,000 in funding to support a cause that aligns each BRG's mission, and we've identified an organization called Clear Path for Veterans (CPV) as our main partner and grant recipient for the latest cycle. CPV works to enrich the lives of veterans while addressing the wellness and social issues they face in making the transition to civilian life. Our BaxVET chapter in central New York has done several volunteer projects with CPV already and I'm excited to grow and strengthen this important partnership.
