Ideas for New Renal Replacement Therapies

Protecting our rights

At Baxter we are genuinely interested in developing an environment of trust with inventors that we believe will work toward our mutual benefit. As one of the world’s largest healthcare organizations, we have built our business and reputation upon integrity and honesty. We are therefore not looking to compromise this image by dishonestly using the ideas and inventions of potential partners.

Naturally, if you are coming to us with an idea already protected by a patent, this is ideal. Baxter is particularly interested in ideas that are or can be protected by patents. Introducing a new product to the market requires a large investment of time and money, but carries no guarantee that the product will be profitable. Baxter, like most companies, is more willing to invest in a new product if there is some assurance that Baxter will have exclusive rights to sell the product. Patents can provide that kind of protection. If a product is not patented, anyone can manufacture and/or sell it and Baxter will lose any competitive advantage/edge.

Over the years Baxter has learned that the evaluation of ideas can sometimes lead to misunderstandings. It often happens, for example, that Baxter is already developinging an idea similar to that submitted. In that situation Baxter may reject the idea, but may bring the idea developed internally to market. It also happens that the idea submitted, even if useful, has little value or is already in the public domain.

In order to avoid these kinds of misunderstandings, Baxter has adopted certain rules concerning the evaluation of ideas that are submitted from outside the company. These rules and the evaluation procedure are designed to protect your rights as well as Baxter´s rights.
