Renal Services

Baxter's Renal business offers a range of services to support kidney patients in the community.
Patient and Clinical Education

Understanding that no single educational resource will meet the needs of all kidney patients, Baxter has developed a multi-pronged approach to help patients understand complex information about their disease, its progression and available therapeutic options.  Globally, Baxter offers a variety of communications tools, including direct-mail materials and Internet-based information for clinicians, patients and caregivers.

RenalInfo.com is a comprehensive and global educational resource for patients diagnosed with kidney disease or who may be at risk for developing the disease.  It offers customizable tools for both patients and health care providers and tailored information for pediatric patients.

In the United States, patients may enroll in the free Stay in Touch educational mailing program, which brings education direct to patients.  The goal of this program is to promote earlier diagnosis and referrals; help patients make positive, long-term adjustments to their disease; and facilitate selection of treatment options.  The program is augmented by Baxter Kidney Patient Educators, a group of nurses who assist physicians' efforts to educate patients with chronic kidney disease, understand their treatment options and to answer questions related to kidney disease in all stages, including lifestyle recommendations. Baxter currently provides individualized education to more than 21,000 patients across the United States.  A network of more than 900 physicians facilitates referrals to the nurses, who then educate patients about kidney function, kidney failure and the various treatment options.

Promoting Scientific Discovery
In October 2001, Baxter, in collaboration with the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), launched Renal Discoveries, an extramural grant program designed to promote scientific advancement in the field of kidney disease. The program continues Baxter's support of the study of kidney disease, including pathophysiology and treatment options, by building on an existing grant program that has distributed more than $25 million to 221 grant winners in 20 countries. It provides needed resources to enable scientific researchers to pursue broad, long-term basic and applied studies. Such studies are critical to enhancing the collective knowledge base on kidney disease and treatment. Renal Discoveries is modeled after grant programs managed by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
Ideas for New Renal Replacement Therapies

Baxter Healthcare is an organization that values entrepreneurial ideas and has a proven ability to develop, manufacture and distribute world-class products. While Baxter conducts extensive internal research and development, it recognizes that good ideas and suggestions can come from any source. This site provides an avenue for people, institutions and companies to contact Baxter with their ideas and work with a leader in renal disease management to bring these ideas to market.

We are interested in a wide range of renal-related ideas, technologies, products and processes within the areas of chronic and end stage kidney disease prevention and treatment. We specifically are looking for ideas:

  • to strengthen our dialysis portfolio
  • to broaden our renal pharmaceuticals portfolio
  • to expand into other renal-related markets
