Understanding that no single educational resource will meet the needs of all kidney patients, Baxter has developed a multi-pronged approach to help patients understand complex information about their disease, its progression and available therapeutic options. Globally, Baxter offers a variety of communications tools, including direct-mail materials and Internet-based information for clinicians, patients and caregivers.
RenalInfo.com is a comprehensive and global educational resource for patients diagnosed with kidney disease or who may be at risk for developing the disease. It offers customizable tools for both patients and health care providers and tailored information for pediatric patients.
In the United States, patients may enroll in the free Stay in Touch educational mailing program, which brings education direct to patients. The goal of this program is to promote earlier diagnosis and referrals; help patients make positive, long-term adjustments to their disease; and facilitate selection of treatment options. The program is augmented by Baxter Kidney Patient Educators, a group of nurses who assist physicians' efforts to educate patients with chronic kidney disease, understand their treatment options and to answer questions related to kidney disease in all stages, including lifestyle recommendations. Baxter currently provides individualized education to more than 21,000 patients across the United States. A network of more than 900 physicians facilitates referrals to the nurses, who then educate patients about kidney function, kidney failure and the various treatment options.
