BAXTER NAMES CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER JOHN MOON
A CORPORATE VICE PRESIDENT AND CORPORATE OFFICER
DEERFIELD, Ill., November
21, 2002 -- Baxter International Inc. (NYSE: BAX) announced today that
the company's board of directors elected John Moon, Baxter's chief information
officer, a corporate vice president and corporate officer. Moon, 43, has
held the position of chief information officer since May of 2000, prior
to which he held a number of information technology leadership positions
at Baxter and other health-care companies.
"John has been a key force in driving technological innovation at
Baxter, which is critical to the company's long-term success. Under his
leadership, Baxter has progressively leveraged technology to enhance operations,
as well as the products and services we provide to our customers and patients,"
said Harry M. Jansen Kraemer, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer.
"John also has been an active member in the broader information technology
community, which enables him to bring a valuable outside-in perspective
and to contribute to advancing information technology solutions for the
entire health-care community."
Moon was named 2001 CIO of the year by the Chicago chapter of the Association
of Information Technology Professionals. In addition, under Moon's leadership
Baxter was recognized this year by Computerworld as one of the 100 Best
Places to Work in Information Technology.
Moon joined Baxter in 1983 as a manager of distribution services. In 1986,
he joined Caremark International, a division of Baxter at the time, where
he served as vice president of corporate systems for Caremark, directing
the information systems efforts during the 1992 spin-off of Caremark from
Baxter Healthcare Corporation. He also served as vice president of information
systems and technology for the company's Physician Service business. Moon
rejoined Baxter in 1996 as vice president of information technology for
Baxter's Renal business until being appointed as Baxter's chief information
officer.
Moon holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree
in management information systems from Northern Illinois University. He
serves on the board of directors for the Global Healthcare Exchange, an
electronic trading exchange designed to improve efficiencies in the health-care
supply chain. Moon also is a member of the American Medical Informatics
Association, Association of Information Technology Professionals, College
of Healthcare Information Management Executives, Pharmaceutical Information
Systems Association and the Society of Information Management. He resides
with his wife, Mary, and two daughters in Libertyville, Ill.
