BAXTER INTERNATIONAL
NAMES THREE NEW CORPORATE OFFICERS
DEERFIELD, Ill., February
27, 2001 - Baxter International Inc. (NYSE: BAX) announced today the election
of three new corporate officers - Neville J. Jeharajah, corporate vice
president-financial planning and investor relations, Karen J. May, corporate
vice president-human resources, and Gregory P. Young, president of Baxter's
Fenwal unit.
"Neville, Karen and Greg each add significant value for our customers,
team members and investors," said Harry M. Jansen Kraemer, Jr., chairman
and chief executive officer. "All three of these individuals bring
passion and commitment to Baxter. They will play significant roles in
driving the company's future growth."
Jeharajah, 47, joined Baxter in 1982 and has held various finance positions,
most recently serving as vice president-financial planning and investor
relations. In his role, Jeharajah is a key financial advisor to Baxter's
senior executives. He provides a critical link between the financial planning
and strategic planning processes, and acts as Baxter's primary liaison
with the investor community. Jeharajah has a bachelor's degree in both
accounting and philosophy, and a master's degree in business from California's
Claremont University. He serves on the board of Cardima Inc. Jeharajah,
his wife and their three children reside in Vernon Hills, Ill.
May, 42, joined Baxter in 1990 as a director of corporate audit after
a career in audit services with Price Waterhouse. In 1998, May moved into
human resources as vice president-global planning and staffing. In 2000,
she became vice president-human resources. May will assume a primary role
in leading the daily operation of Baxter's global human resource function.
May, a certified public accountant, has a bachelor's degree in accounting
from the University of Illinois. She is on the board of the LSA Variable
Series Trust. May, her husband and their three children reside in Lincolnshire,
Ill.
Young, 47, joined Baxter in 1985 and has served in roles of increasing
responsibility in sales, marketing and product development within Baxter's
medication delivery business, including president of the electronic infusion
division. In 1999, Young became president of Baxter's Fenwal division.
Young has a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Northern Illinois University,
a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinois, and an
MBA from York College of Pennsylvania. Young is a member of the board
of trustees of The Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and a trustee
of the National Blood Foundation. He is also a member of the American
Pharmaceutical Association. Young, his wife and their two children reside
in Arlington Heights, Ill.
