Electronic Commerce Overview

What is Electronic Commerce?

Electronic transfer of information, goods or services to a customer in exchange for funds. This process is commonly referred to as the business transaction.

Traditionally, commerce has involved the exchange of paper documents (purchase orders, bills of sale, invoices, checks, etc.). With Electronic Commerce (e-Commerce), this exchange of information, goods, services, and funds take place electronically without human intervention.

The two most common forms of e-Commerce are Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and Internet-Commerce (I-Commerce). Baxter offers an internet solution called eServices Center.

Baxter also offers an internet ordering process as part of a collaborative effort with Global Healthcare Exchange (GHX) and many other health-care manufacturers.

The benefits of Electronic Commerce are:

Improved Customer Service
Additional time can be dedicated to servicing customers rather than entering data.
Increased Data Accuracy
Over 70% of one computer's content or input originates with another computer. Transferring information directly from computer to computer reduces the incidence of errors.
Increased Productivity
Receive confirmation of your order once it has been received and processed.
Reduced Operation Costs
Elimination of the manual process results in lower labor, office supply and postage costs.
