FDP Q & A

The following section describes some of the benefits to be gained by participating in the Financial Development Program through sharing the perspectives of current and former program participants and a current supervisor. For additional insight into FDP opportunities, please see the Rotation Spotlights below.

How did your experience in the program prepare you for the increased level of responsibility you now hold?

“The Finance Development Program was a fantastic stepping-stone into both my senior financial analyst role and my manager role. By rotating into 4 new roles in a 3-year period, I gained the competency to shorten the learning curve and start adding value immediately. The diverse experiences and background gained from each of my rotations allowed me to take an impartial look at the processes within my new team and make improvements immediately.”

-Finance Manager, Global Renal Finance and former FDP Associate

When designing the rotation, what are your three main goals for the FDP to get out of the experience?

“First, I wanted to make the rotation a fun and positive experience, while at the same time ensuring the FDP associate gains a solid technical skill set, especially when it came to aspects of internal controls. Second, I wanted he/she to understand the international experience. He/she should come in contact with and grasp differences and diversity. Third, I see the FDP as a management development program. By that I mean the FDP associate should learn various aspects of being a solid manager, such as multi-tasking, time management, international considerations, etc. Furthermore, the FDP associate should learn the importance of team work and leading that team, as well as managing other individuals from multicultural backgrounds, managing management’s expectations, and building effective relationships.”

- Finance Manager, Asia Pacific

What is the most beneficial aspect of the Financial Development Program?

The most beneficial aspect I have experienced in the Financial Development Program would have to be the challenges that my managers have presented to me. My managers understand that I am in the FDP to grow and become a better finance and business professional, therefore they have provided me with unique challenges in finance that helped me to strengthen my teambuilding, communication, and leadership skills.

- FDP Associate, Corporate Audit
